I will be taking you through the stages of my new equine painting. I did a number of sketches using photographs as reference. Then, I developed a graphite value sketch. The drawing gave me the feel of rubbing my hands over the colt.
I began this painting by applying a wash of burnt sienna to the entire canvas. I established the values of the filly. I really like the burnt sienna wash with the coloring of the colt. So, I know that the grasses will have lots of warmer tones.
In case you are wondering, she is checking out some yellow flowers, which will be added by the time I share the next image with you.
I hope you will enjoy this painting adventure.
Thanks for visiting,
Teddy

I was honored to donate my painting "Mountain Air"
for the benefit Auction, which was held at the
Buttonwood Art Space on January 14th. All the proceeds from the sale of this painting went to New House. Thank you to all the people who came out to support this wonderful cause.
