I hope you are enjoying the results of my commitment to creating a Painting a Week in 2009. Many of my artist friends, here in the midwest, have taken up the challenge and are doing a painting a week, too. Sometimes, I am approached by people asking me if I am the artist, who posts a new painting each week. Of course, I am proud to say, "Yes, that's me and I am loving every minute of it."
It has been another wonderful art filled week. I had two opening receptions on April 3rd. "Patriotic" and "Gatehouse" were accepted into the Juried Exhibition at the Overland Park, KS Convention Center. This is a marvelous exhibit of 60 pieces of art and will be open until mid June. I was proud to learn that two of my pieces were selected from 400 enteries.
"Alpine Tranquility" will hang at Images Art Gallery, 1520 W. Walnut, Kansas City, MO as a part of their Juried Exhibit. This exhibit will be open until April 25th. You may view these three pieces in the "artwork" tab on this site.
The painting for this week comes from my trip to France. I enjoy the opportunity to travel in my mind and to share my memories with you. June is a great time to experience the beauty of the north of France. Frequent rains bring fantastic flowers and lush green fields. This painting is the seventh painting in this weekly series that has been inspired by my many reference photos and sketches from France.

It is common to see colorful flowers clinging to fences and climbing up the sides of the buildings. There are inspiring gardens nestled near the doorways to the many of homes.
The small towns compete to receive a special designation of "Four Flower City". This gives them the honor to proudly display "Four Flowers" on the sign, which welcomes visitors to their city.
When you enter a "Four Flower City", you are in for a fabulous display of floral treats. The residents work hard to help their city achieve this goal.
Annually, the cities are judged and receive either a one, two, three, or four flower award. The more flowers they earn the more stunning the floral display.

Please suggest a title for this or any of other paintings in my weekly series. It is so much fun to hear from you and learn what you see in these paintings.
Hope you will come next week!
